Bermuda Health Council Amendment Act
Simplified for You
What this bill does
This bill allows the Bermuda Health Council to create and enforce an official list of prescription drugs and their maximum prices that can be charged to patients. It establishes a committee to decide which drugs go on this list and sets up systems to track drug prices and sales across Bermuda.
If passed (voted YES)
- Prescription drug prices would be regulated - pharmacies couldn't charge more than the prices set by the Health Council
- All pharmacies, hospitals, and insurers would have to use a new tracking system with special codes for every medication
- Patients would get clearer information about drug costs and insurance coverage when picking up prescriptions
- The Health Council could negotiate with suppliers to try to get lower drug prices for Bermuda
If rejected (voted NO)
- Drug prices would continue to be set by individual pharmacies and suppliers without government regulation
- No official tracking system would be created to monitor medication prices and sales across the island
- The current system where patients may not get clear cost information would continue unchanged
Who it affects
This affects everyone in Bermuda who buys prescription medications, as well as pharmacies, hospitals, doctors, insurance companies, and drug importers who would all need to follow new reporting and pricing rules.
