Cannabis Licensing Act

What this bill does

This bill creates a legal framework to allow licensed cannabis cultivation, sale, and use in Bermuda while removing cannabis from the list of controlled drugs. It establishes a Cannabis Licensing Authority to regulate the industry and creates different types of licenses for growing, selling, manufacturing, and transporting cannabis.

If passed (voted YES)

• Cannabis becomes legal for licensed businesses to grow, sell, and distribute in Bermuda, with retail shops able to operate legally

• Only Bermudians aged 21+ can apply for licenses, and the industry is designed as a "special programme" to promote equal economic opportunity for Bermudians

If rejected (voted NO)

• Cannabis remains illegal under current drug laws, with no legal way to purchase, sell, or commercially grow it
• No regulated cannabis industry would exist, meaning no legal retail shops, cultivation facilities, or related businesses
• Current penalties and criminal charges for cannabis-related activities would continue unchanged
