Simplified for You
What this bill does
This bill updates Bermuda's customs duties and import taxes. It makes changes to hospital supply exemptions and reduces fuel taxes on diesel and fuel oil by half.
If passed (voted YES)
- Hospital operating supplies will have clearer rules for duty-free imports, with the Bermuda Hospitals Board's finance officer certifying what qualifies
- Diesel fuel tax will drop from 8 cents per liter to 4 cents per liter
- Fuel oil tax will drop from 8 cents per liter to 4 cents per liter
- The full customs tariff schedule will be updated with new rates and classifications
If rejected (voted NO)
- Hospital supply import rules stay as they currently are
- Diesel and fuel oil taxes remain at 8 cents per liter each
- Current customs tariff rates and schedules remain unchanged
Who it affects
This affects fuel consumers (including drivers and businesses using diesel), hospitals importing medical supplies, and anyone involved in importing goods to Bermuda. The fuel tax reductions could lower costs for transportation and businesses that rely on diesel fuel.
