What this bill does
This bill changes the law to allow trained and certified pyrotechnicians (professional fireworks experts) working for fireworks companies to get permits for fireworks displays. Currently, only government officials, municipal corporations, and hotel managers can get these permits.
If passed (voted YES)
- Professional pyrotechnicians employed by fireworks companies can apply for permits to import, possess, and display fireworks
- The Chief Fire Officer must be consulted before any fireworks permits are granted
- Fireworks permit fees increase from $300 to $500
If rejected (voted NO)
- Only government officials, municipal corporations, and hotel managers can continue to get fireworks permits
- Private pyrotechnics companies cannot legally conduct fireworks displays in Bermuda
- Fireworks permit fees remain at $300
