Government Bill Passed 2021/2022

Gaming Amendment Act

Simplified for You

What this bill does

This bill makes two small changes to Bermuda's gaming laws. It changes the rules about removing Gaming Commission members from their jobs and clearly states that politicians cannot serve on the Gaming Commission.

If passed (voted YES)

  • Gaming Commission members can be fired for being "unfit" for the job (instead of just "unwilling" to do it)
  • Members of Parliament and Senators are officially banned from serving on the Gaming Commission
  • The Gaming Commission will have clearer separation from elected politicians

If rejected (voted NO)

  • Gaming Commission members can only be removed if they are "unwilling" to perform their duties, not if they are simply unfit
  • The law won't explicitly prevent MPs and Senators from joining the Gaming Commission
  • Current gaming regulations stay exactly as they are

Who it affects

This mainly affects current and future members of the Bermuda Gaming Commission and politicians who might have wanted to serve on the Commission. Regular citizens are not directly impacted by these administrative changes.
