Motor Car (Licence Duties Reduction) Amendment Act 2026

What this bill does

This bill reduces the annual license fees for private cars in Bermuda by 10% across all vehicle size categories. The new lower rates would replace the current fees that car owners pay when renewing their vehicle licenses.

If passed (voted YES)

• Car owners will pay 10% less for their annual vehicle license renewals starting April 1, 2026
• Savings range from about $27 for the smallest cars (Class A) to over $168 for the largest cars (Class I)
• The reduced fees will apply to all private motor cars, with rates based on the vehicle's length as currently structured

If rejected (voted NO)

• Vehicle license fees remain at their current higher rates
• Car owners continue paying the existing license duties without any reduction
• No changes are made to the current fee structure in the Motor Car Act 1951
