Registrar of Companies (Annual Corporate Regulatory Fees) Amendment Act 2024
Simplified for You
What this bill does
This bill changes when companies must pay their annual regulatory fees to the government. It makes two earlier laws take effect from January 1, 2024, and gives companies until March 31, 2024 (or another date set by the Registrar) to pay their fees.
If passed (voted YES)
- Companies get until March 31, 2024 to pay their annual regulatory fees instead of having to pay in January
- The Registrar of Companies can set a different payment deadline if needed by publishing it in the official Gazette
- Any companies that already paid their fees early (before this law passed) will have those payments counted as valid
If rejected (voted NO)
- Companies would have to follow the original payment schedule, which required fees to be paid in January 2024
- There would be no flexibility for the Registrar to extend payment deadlines
- Some uncertainty might remain about whether early payments made before this amendment were valid
Who it affects
This primarily affects all companies and business entities registered in Bermuda that are required to pay annual regulatory fees to the Registrar of Companies.
