Biography

The Honourable Owen Darrell, JP, MP, the Minister of of Tourism, Transport, Culture & Sport, first took office on October 27th, 2022, as the Minister responsible for the former youth, culture and sport portfolio. About a year later, he accepted the role of leading a newly renamed portfolio focused on uplifting our cultural, sporting, and tourism sectors. Born and educated here in Bermuda, Minister Darrell is a proud graduate of Harrington Sound Primary School and The Berkeley Institute. He furthered his education at the University of Tampa, earning a Bachelor of Science in Social Science and Secondary Education in 2002. Bringing his talents back home, he served our youth as an educator at CedarBridge Academy and The Berkeley Institute, culminating his educational career as Year Head at The Berkeley Institute in 2017.Beyond education, Minister Darrell has significantly impacted our community through various leadership roles. Before his ministerial appointment, he was the Senior Advisor to the Youth Parliament for over a decade and served as the Chief of Staff to the Premier of Bermuda. An entrepreneur at heart, he was a founding member of Bermuda’s first digital taxi dispatching service and an Executive of the Bermuda Taxi Owners and Operators Association, managing his own taxi business for nearly 20 years. Minister Darrell's commitment extends to sports and recreation, having been a former chair of the National Sports Centre and a member of the Public Golf Course Board of Trustees. He fervently supports the Devonshire Colts FC and the Cleveland County Cricket Club. You'll often find him passionately cheering on our local sports teams every weekend wherever games are being held.  Above all, Minister Darrell is a devoted father to his children, Tatum and Oliver, and continues to inspire and energise everyone he has the opportunity to meet during visits at various community events.
