For students who must travel overseas and are therefore unable to attend school
locally, will the Honourable Minister please inform this Honourable House how are their
absences recorded under the Education act’s compulsory attendance requirements,
and what measures are in place to ensure academic continuity during their time away,
and ongoing communication with the family and reintergration planning upon the
student’s return?

Response
Students who are out of school for a valid reason, such as overseas travel, or for medical
reasons, et. al., are marked as – Absent Excused (AE). Their education is provided and
managed at overseas placements, and the DOE and schools provide transition support for
returning students.
