Will the Honourable Minister please provide this Honourable House with a listing of the complaints the
Ministry has received regarding noxious smells and sewage run off from the Greenland Farm operation,
including sewage run off onto the Railway Trail which abuts the property and other neighbouring properties,
and sewage run off entering the interior of some homes, since the current operators (the Almeidas) took over
the farm operation, broken down by date?

Given the number of complaints, and at the request of Senator Lindsay Simmons and other stakeholders, the Ministry
held numerous meetings with the operators over the past several months to address the concerns raised.
In addition, it is important to note that the operators have been actively working to address the situation. For instance,
recent efforts to mitigate excess runoff onto the Railway Trail have included reshaping the site’s topography to better
manage overflow.
Furthermore, at the most recent meeting on November 4, 2025, the operators agreed to resolve all related issues. The
planned actions include, but are not limited to:
• Increasing oversight of the aerated waste collection pit and ensuring regular transportation of waste to the
Marsh Folly Waste Disposal Site
• Upgrading odour control systems to reduce unpleasant smells affecting the surrounding area; and
• Enhanced perimeter monitoring to proactively prevent any potential runoff from entering adjacent areas.
We sincerely thank the community for their continued engagement and patience, as we continue to work
collaboratively to implement lasting solutions.
