What this bill does
This bill would allow Bermudians who are temporarily outside Bermuda on election day to vote in parliamentary elections from abroad. Currently, if you're away from Bermuda during an election, you cannot vote.
If Passed (Voted Yes)
Bermudians studying, working, or traveling abroad could vote in elections by mail, online, or at designated locations overseas
You would need to apply at least 21 days before an election to be registered as an absentee voter
The government would create secure systems to protect ballot secrecy and prevent fraud in overseas voting
If Rejected (Voted No)
Bermudians outside the country on election day would continue to be unable to vote
Only people physically present in Bermuda on polling day could participate in elections
No changes would be made to current voting procedures
Who It Affects
This primarily affects Bermudians who travel frequently for work, students studying overseas, people receiving medical treatment abroad, and government employees on official duties. It would also impact their families and communities by giving them a voice in elections even when temporarily away.
Vote counts are not published.
The Bermuda Parliament does not publicly record individual vote counts or how each member voted.
