What this bill does
This bill changes Bermuda's quarantine laws to give the Quarantine Authority power to impose emergency health orders on military personnel who want to come ashore in Bermuda. Currently, armed forces members are exempt from quarantine rules, but this would allow exceptions during health emergencies.
If Passed (Voted Yes)
Military officers and crew members who want to leave their ships and enter Bermuda could be subject to quarantine requirements during health emergencies
The Quarantine Authority would have the power to impose health restrictions on armed forces personnel, even though they normally have exemptions
Emergency health orders could be applied to military conveyances (ships, aircraft) visiting Bermuda
If Rejected (Voted No)
Armed forces personnel would continue to have full exemption from quarantine rules under all circumstances
The Quarantine Authority would have no power to impose health restrictions on military personnel, even during health emergencies
Current exemptions for armed forces would remain unchanged
Who It Affects
This primarily affects officers and crew members of foreign military ships and aircraft who visit Bermuda and wish to come ashore. It also affects the Quarantine Authority by giving them additional powers during health emergencies.
