What this bill does

This bill temporarily changes the rules for vacation rental properties that are under rent control. It allows Bermudians to rent these properties for up to 12 months over a 24-month period (instead of the current 6 months over 12 months), and extends vacation rental certificates from 1 year to 2 years.

If Passed (Voted Yes)
Bermuda residents can stay longer in rent-controlled vacation rentals - up to a full year spread across any 24-month period
Property owners won't need to renew their vacation rental certificates as often - they'll be valid for 2 years instead of 1 year
These changes will automatically expire after 2 years unless the government decides to extend them
If Rejected (Voted No)
The current limits remain - Bermudians can only rent vacation rental properties for a maximum of 6 months within any 12-month period
Vacation rental certificates continue to expire after 1 year and must be renewed annually
No temporary trial period for these extended rental arrangements

Who It Affects

This primarily affects Bermuda residents who rent vacation rental properties for housing, and property owners who operate rent-controlled vacation rentals. It could help Bermudians who need longer-term housing options while giving property owners more flexibility in their rental arrangements.
Vote counts are not published. The Bermuda Parliament does not publicly record individual vote counts or how each member voted.
