What this bill does
This bill makes two main changes to marriage and domestic partnership laws in Bermuda. It allows the government to appoint Deputy Registrars to help perform marriage ceremonies, and it extends the hours when marriages and domestic partnerships can be officially conducted from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. (instead of current shorter hours).
If Passed (Voted Yes)
Deputy Registrars could be appointed to perform marriage ceremonies, potentially reducing wait times and increasing availability
Marriages and domestic partnerships could be conducted any time between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday (excluding public holidays)
The Minister could approve ceremonies outside these standard hours for special circumstances
If Rejected (Voted No)
Only the main Registrar would continue performing all marriage ceremonies, which could limit availability
Marriage and domestic partnership ceremonies would continue under the current, more restrictive time schedule
No additional flexibility would be added for couples wanting ceremonies at different times
